In less than two months of the launch of Xiaomi s conceptual Mi MIX smartphone, the rumor mill is upbeat with the successor to the near bezel-less smartphone. Dubbed the Mi MIX 2, the smartphone is expected to offer a 100 percent screen-to-body ratio, which means it could be the first-ever smartphone to have no bezels, at all. The Mi MIX, with its ceramic body, offers a screen-to-body ratio of 91.3 percent that means there are bezels which are too narrow to be noticed easily. However, if the latest rumors are to be believed, the successor will push the boundaries out completely. While the Mi MIX 2 will ditch the bezels completely, it will retain the 6.4-inch display size as on its predecessor. The display will further get a boost in terms of resolution and support 2K format as compared to the original Mi MIX that comes with support for full HD resolution. The Mi MIX 2 is further expected to come equipped with a dual camera module, something which the original version lacks. Mi MIX 2 specifications and features
Based on the leaked renders, the Mi MIX 2 appears to have negligible bezels. But in one glance, it does offer a hard-to-believe but an impressive edge-to-edge display. On the right is the power button and the volume rockers. The top features the standard 3.5mm headphone jack along with the selfie camera, which looks like it is mounted on the top. The bottom houses the speaker grille along with a USB Type-C port for charging.
The original Mi MIX with its ceramic body is touted to endure drops and scratches. However, there have been reports about the smartphone being equally fragile and prone to shattering. Now the Mi MIX 2 with its 100 percent screen-to-body ratio is bound to be an even delicate piece of technology. Whether Xiaomi continues to use ceramic to craft the rumored smartphone or moves to some other material, we are yet to know that. The original Mi MIX features a 16-megapixel rear camera with phase detection auto-focus (PDAF), electronic image stabilization (EIS) and dual tone LED flash, along with a 5-megapixel front camera which is placed on the bottom bezel of the screen. Now the Mi MIX 2 is expected to jump the dual camera module bandwagon. However, there are some renders of the purported device which hint at a single camera system in the rear. For selfies, the purported smartphone is expected to include LED flash enabled telescopic camera which is placed on the top-right edge of the smartphone. It looks like it could be popped out through a hardware key to capture photos.
Akin to the predecessor, the Mi MIX 2 is also expected to feature an ultrasonic fingerprint reader embedded under the display. The technology allows developers to layer fingerprint scanner in the display instead of a separate button. In terms of software, it is rumored that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 will come powered by the latest Android 7.0 Nougat with MIUI 9 layered above. While one must take these rumors with a pinch of salt as the original Mi MIX is yet to hit global markets. Priced at RMB 3,499 (Rs 34,000 approximately) for the 4GB of RAM + 128GB variant and 3,999 RMB (Rs 40,000 approximately) for the Pro variant with 18K gold rings, 6GB of RAM + 256GB storage, the Mi MIX is Xiaomi s most expensive concept smartphone till date and currently only available only in China.
