If you thought the Mi MIX was a one-off thing from Xiaomi, you are wrong. Xiaomi has confirmed it is working on the successor to the incredible MI MIX smartphone and it is being designed by Philippe Starck again. While Xiaomi Mi MIX never entered any international market, but even with its limited availability in China, the smartphone managed to set a trend of a ‘bezel-less’ design for smartphones across the world.

Recently we heard some rumors about Xiaomi working on the Mi MIX 2, but nothing concrete was known thus far. Now, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun has confirmed that French designer Philippe Starck, who designed the original Mi MIX, will continue to design the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Mix 2.

Now, from what we know so far, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 will aim to achieve a 100 percent screen-to-body ratio, which means it could be the first-ever smartphone to have no bezels, at all. To draw a comparison, the Mi MIX, with its ceramic body, offers a screen-to-body ratio of 91.3 percent that means there are bezels which are too narrow to be noticed easily. However, if the latest rumors are to be believed, the successor will push the boundaries further.

Further, while the Mi MIX 2 will ditch the bezels completely, it is rumored to retain the 6.4-inch display size as on its predecessor. The display will further get a boost in terms of resolution and support 2K format as compared to the original Mi MIX that comes with support for full HD resolution. Additionally, recovering on one of the most popular features that was missing on its predecessor, the Mi MIX 2 will be equipped with a dual camera module. For selfies, the purported smartphone is expected to include LED flash enabled telescopic camera. ALSO READ: Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 renders leaked, hint at 100% screen-to-body ratio

The Mi MIX 2 is also expected to feature an ultrasonic fingerprint reader embedded under the display. The technology allows developers to layer fingerprint scanner in the display instead of a separate button. In terms of software, it is rumored that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 will come powered by the latest Android 7.0 Nougat with MIUI 9 layered above.

To put things in perspective, the original Mi MIX features a 6.4-inch display and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM. There is 128GB onboard storage on offer. The Mi MIX also comes in a ‘Pro’ variant, which features 256GB storage, 6GB of RAM, and the rings around the camera lens and fingerprint sensor are made up of 18K gold.

For photography, the smartphone comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, and EIS. For selfie lovers, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Underneath is a 4,400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, and connectivity options like 4G with VoLTE support, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and USB Type-C port. On the software front, it runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8.
