It’s no secret that Apple has been working on 3D facial recognition technology for its upcoming iPhones. But turns out it could be trumped by a Chinese company. The long rumored Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is all set to launch on September 12. The latest leak includes a screenshot that hints at a possible face recognition feature. While there’s no official word yet, it could be a case wherein Xiaomi drops the fingerprint sensor in favor of facial recognition. This however is in contrast to previous reports claiming that the fingerprint sensor on the Mi MIX 2 will be embedded under the display. According to the leak, the facial recognition feature will be implemented on MIUI 9, and will debut with the Mi MIX 2.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 specifications
From what we know so far, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC clocked at 1.9GHz, and paired with 6GB of RAM. The smartphone is expected to launch in three variants 128GB storage with 4GB RAM, 128GB storage with 6GB RAM, and a 256GB storage variant with 8GB RAM. The smartphone is also expected to flaunt a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2540 1440 pixels. For photography, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is expected to sport a 19-megapixel rear camera, and a 16-megapixel selfie camera. Some rumors suggest that the smartphone will sport a dual-camera setup on the rear. The phone might be armed with a 4,500mAh battery. Apart from that, the latest render of the Mi Mix 2 leaked online suggests that the smartphone could have an aspect ratio of 18:9, and a screen-to-body ratio of 95 percent.
