To use ARCore apps, one needs to have a smartphone running Android 7.0 and above, as well as the Google Play Store. But since the search giant s app store is not available in China, it has come up with a workaround. The ARCore apps are currently available on Xiaomi s App Store. But they will currently only work on the Mi MIX 2s. Also Read - Mi Band 5, Mi Band 4 get new features with Mi Fit v4.4.0 update
With China being too important a market for Google to ignore, it has come up with such workarounds before as well. For its Wear OS, Google has similarly partnered local app stores. Currently, Google s wearable apps can be downloaded from Huawei or Mobvoi s app stores. Similarly, the ARCore apps will also be available on other OEMs app stores in the coming weeks.
ARCore is essentially a platform for developers to create apps that will be using augmented reality for various tasks. In other words, it is Google s take on the Apple ARKit. There are over 30 devices that support ARCore from OEMs like Samsung, Sony, OnePlus, Motorola, and HMD Global to name a few.
