Last year, Xiaomi introduced the Mi MIX 2 smartphone, which garnered a lot of interest for its true bezel-less design. The smartphone is now set to see its successor, dubbed Mi MIX 2s, which could possibly be the first-ever smartphone to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 SoC.
Snapdragon 845 SoC is heavily focused on camera and AI. According to Qualcomm, the new chip offers 30 percent better performance overall, while AI processing has been improved by an astounding 300 percent. It is also said to further improve the battery output of a given device.
According to a Chinese blog IT168, Xiaomi could possibly unveil the Mi MIX 2s at next month’s Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018) in Barcelona, Spain. One of the speculated features of the smartphone is that in addition to the Snapdragon 845 SoC, the Mi MIX 2s will have an upgraded camera.
Based on rumors, the Mi MIX 2s will be equipped with the new Sony IMX363 sensor and will have larger individual pixels, faster dual-pixel auto-focusing and better night-time shooting capabilities.
In terms of design, the Mi MIX 2s is likely to borrow the ‘notch’ element from the Apple iPhone X. It is also expected that the phone will hop on the current industry trend and include some type of facial recognition technology for biometric authentication. Past leaks claim that the Mi MIX 2s will cost around RMB 4,000 (approximately Rs 40,000) when launched.
If these speculations are anything to go by, then the Mi MIX 2s could be the first smartphone (or perhaps one of the first smartphones as Samsung Galaxy S9 is also on the cards) to come equipped with the newest chipset, and have a premium camera as well.
Some analysts have also indicated that the phone will be released ahead of schedule at MWC event. Now, this could mean its availability will also be sooner than other competing phones. It is speculated that the commercial launch of the Mi MIX 2s will be in March. It is unclear if the phone will make its entry sooner in other markets, such as India, where its predecessor was the first bezel-less phone to be released by Xiaomi.
