Xiaomi launched today the second-generation Mi MIX 2S at an event in China. It is a successor to last year’s Mi MIX 2, and extends the company’s edge-to-edge smartphone portfolio. The Mi MIX 2S had been subject to plenty of leaks and rumors, and today with its official announcement, a lot of that stand confirmed, except for the presence of a notch.

With subtle upgrades under the hood, the Mi MIX 2S does not bring many changes when it comes to the overall design language. It continues with the same bezel-less display design as its predecessor. Here’s a look at all that has changed between the Mi MIX 2S and Mi MIX 2 across various parameters.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S vs Mi MIX 2 design comparison

The Mi MIX 2S sports a design similar to the Mi MIX 2 from last year. The bezels are minimal with the front camera placed on the bottom right corner. Rumors indicated that the Mi MIX 2S will sport a notch design, however, Xiaomi decided not to opt for it this year even as manufacturers are adopting the design element widely.

What differentiates the Mi MIX 2S from the Mi MIX 2 is the placement of the dual cameras at the back. The Mi MIX 2 features a single rear camera placed in the middle of the rear panel, right above the fingerprint sensor. The Mi MIX 2S features a dual-camera module at the back, which is vertically positioned. A dedicated fingerprint sensor is retained at the back.

One of the major changes between the Mi MIX 2S and Mi MIX 2 is the camera capabilities. With increased stress on integrating AI into smartphone technology, the camera on the Mi MIX 2S also promises advanced output with the use of dual cameras. What also makes the Mi MIX 2S worthy of being called a successor is that it includes a Sony IMX 363 sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 1.4µm pixels which is claimed to allow 25 percent more light more detailed low-light shots. The camera features include AI-based scene selection, Portrait Mode, dual-pixel autofocus, 4-axis OIS, optical zoom, and hardware-level multi-frame noise reduction. Xiaomi says the Mi MIX 2S got a DxO score of 101 for photography, the highest among smartphones.

The front camera continues to be the same as the predecessor at 5-megapixel. However, with AI-capabilities, a lot of new effects have been added such as Portrait selfies, animated lighting, swirl effects, and more.
