At the launch event of the Mi MIX 3 back in October, Xiaomi had claimed that it will be launching a 5G version of the smartphone sometime in Q1, 2019. Today, Xiaomi President Lin Bin has shared a new image on his Weibo account, which reveals that the company is now testing the 5G network on the smartphone.
A close look at the icons on the notification bar of the above image reveals that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 is not running on MIUI. Rather, it seems to be running on a near stock version of Android Pie. At the top right corner is the 5G network indicator which shows the handset is being tested for 5G connectivity. It appears when the handset will be officially announced, it will be running Android 9 Pie OS overlaid with the latest MIUI 10.
There is no confirmation on whether the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G edition will be equipped with same specs as its non-5G version or it will be arriving with bumped up specs. Last year, the Chinese manufacturer had launched the Mi MIX 2 in September, and released the Mi MIX 2S as its upgraded edition in March this year. The Mi MIX 2s arrived with identical design as Mi MIX 2, but the Snapdragon 835 chipset was replaced by the more powerful Snapdragon 845.

Hence, there is a possibility that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G may have the same design as the Mi MIX 3, but may include the all new Snapdragon 8150 chipset that will be announced next month. It may probably feature up to 10GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of internal storage. The rest of the specs of the phone may not be very different from its non-5G version. There is no information available on the pricing of the Mi MIX 3 5G.
