The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3‘s slider design is among its USPs. The design gave Xiaomi the opportunity to further minimize the bezels around the phone’s screen. Thus, the Mi MIX 3 boasts the largest screen-to-body ratio of any Xiaomi phone. However, the slider design has also given rise to concerns over its durability, especially after persistent use.
Xiaomi has ensured that the slider is durable, and it is unlike any other mechanical slider technology used in the past. This claim has now been reaffirmed by an independent test conducted to determine the durability of the Mi MIX 3 slider.
The sliding test shows the Mi MIX 3 undergoing a rapid open and close test. The Mi MIX 3’s panel is slid open and shut up to 600,000 times with the help of automated robot arms. This gives users the assurance that the Mi MIX 3 mechanical slider may not be a problem after constant use. Instead, users should be more concerned with not letting the phone fall accidentally, as it might not survive a single drop.
Xiaomi isn’t the first, and we have seen such pop-up mechanisms on devices like the Vivo NEX and Oppo Find X. But, the Mi MIX 3’s manual slider does come across as more sturdy, and should ideally last longer. At the launch, Xiaomi had claimed that the slider is good enough to last up to 300,000 openings, which corresponds to 6-8 years of everyday use
