After weeks of leaks and rumors, Xiaomi has finally launched its Mi MIX 3 smartphone. Following in its predecessors’ footsteps, Xiaomi’s newest flagship comes with a large display that has near zero bezels on all four sides. More importantly, there’s no unsightly notch, since Mi MIX 3 features a mechanical slider similar to Oppo Find X for housing the dual front-facing camera system. Apart from this, there are quite a few other differences between the Mi MIX 3 and its predecessor, the Mi MIX 2S, which launched earlier this year. Here’s how the two smartphones compare with each other in terms of features and specifications.
Design and display
Even though they are both premium smartphones through and through, the Mi MIX 3 and Mi MIX 2S are fundamentally different when it comes to design. While the MIX 2s has a conventional ‘slab-like’ design like any other smartphone, the MIX 3 is a two-piece construction, with the rear piece housing all of the phone’s hardware components, except the display, which is what the front piece is all about.
That said, the rear panels of the two smartphones actually look quite similar when compared side by side. Both Mi MIX 3 and Mi MIX 2s have a dual-camera system at the back, comprised of two 12-megapixel sensors and LED flash. The vertically-stacked cameras are placed on the top left corner, with a rounded fingerprint sensor at the center of the top half of the rear panel.
As far as the dimensions are concerned, the Mi MIX 3 is slightly taller and a bit heavier than the Mi MIX 2S, primarily because of the larger display (discussed next) and the two sliding panels.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S has a 5.99-inch FullHD+ IPS LCD panel with an 18:9 aspect ratio, and minimal bezels on all three sides except the chin. In comparison, Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 features an even bigger 6.39-inch FullHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a taller 19.5:9 aspect ratio and no bezels on all sides.
Hardware and software
There isn’t much difference between the Mi MIX 3 and Mi MIX 2S when it comes to basic hardware. Both smartphones have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC under-the-hood, paired with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB of internal storage. However, there’s also a top-of-the-line version of the Mi MIX 3, which comes with an astounding 10GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Neither of the two has a microSD card slot, or a 3.5mm audio port. However, other modern connectivity features like Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and USB Type-C are present on both smartphones.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 and Mi MIX 2S have dual-camera systems at the back, comprised of two 12-megapixel modules, complete with features like dual-pixel PDAF and four-axis OIS. However, the Mi MIX 3 also has a dual-camera setup on the front, with the smartphone’s 24-megapixel and 2-megapixel selfie snappers placed in the mechanical slider. In comparison, Mi MIX 2S only has a single 5-megapixel front-facing shooter.

Despite being an upgrade in almost all departments, Mi MIX 3 seems like a slight step-down from its predecessor when it comes to battery. Xiaomi’s newest smartphone has a 3,200mAh power-pack, which is a bit less than the 3,400mAh cell that Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s comes with. However, both smartphones support fast charging and wireless charging.
