Xiaomi Mi MIX 3, the upcoming flagship smartphone, seems to be the most ambitious device, yet from the Chinese company. It is set to bring an edge-to-edge display design with relatively high screen-to-body ratio without a notch to hinder your experience. Xiaomi has already confirmed that it will feature a slide-out design to reveal the camera module, making it the newest device to go for motorized elements after Vivo NEX and Oppo Find X. However, the new leaks suggest it will truly be a flagship smartphone with features only found on premium flagship devices. As per XDA-Developers, the Mi MIX 3 could be among very handful of devices to feature support for super slow motion video recording at 960 frames per second. Samsung’s Galaxy S9 series, Galaxy Note 9, Huawei P20 Pro and Sony Xperia XZ Premium from 2017 are the only devices to support super slow motion recording. The code found hidden inside MIUI camera app hints at a yet-to be-launched Xiaomi device with the internal name “Perseus” that supports 960fps slow motion video. The Perseus is a yet to launch high-end Xiaomi flagship powered by Snapdragon 845, and running MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie.
There is a possibility that Perseus is the internal codename for Mi MIX 3, which is set to launch officially on October 25. Sony and Samsung are able to support super slow motion video recording on their flagships with the help of a dedicated DRAM chip added to the camera module to process all the frames captured by the device. Huawei, on the other hand, relies on frame interpolation for 960fps recording but the resulting video lacks details.
XDA reports that Xiaomi will also use frame interpolation so don’t expect a high quality video footage in super slow motion. While Mi MIX 3 has leaked multiple times, Xiaomi is playing its own part by revealing some of the features ahead of its official launch.
