Xiaomi s yet to be announced Mi Note 2 is one of the highly anticipated smartphones that has been in the rumor mill for quite some time now. Besides packing top-of-the-line hardware, it is also expected to be the most expensive smartphone in Xiaomi s lineup. Now, while multiple leaks and rumors have hinted at the Mi Note 2 sporting a dual-edge curved display, just like the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, the latest photos alleged to be of the Mi Note 2 reveal a different story altogether. The photos spotted on Weibo show off ultra-thin bezels, but no dual-edge curved display. The veracity of the photos is quite questionable as the ambient light sensor, the earpiece and selfie camera are nowhere found above the display. All we can see is that it runs on interface that looks and feels like MIUI. This is not one of a kind, for those who remember the Sharp Aquos Crystal, it featured all top display. The sensor, earpiece and selfie camera were placed at the bottom, below the capacitive touch buttons. That being said; we can t confirm if the leaked images are of the Mi Note 2. It is quite possible that the pictures could be of a completely new prototype device that Xiaomi has been working on. Also Read - Redmi Note 10 price in India hiked again: Check the new price here
From what we know so far, the Mi Note 2 has already gone on mass production. The smartphone is rumored to be unveiled on October 25. In terms of pricing, Chinese analyst Pan Juitang hinted that it could set you back by RMB 4,000, which roughly translates to Rs 39,800. Xiaomi Mi Note 2 specifications
The upcoming smartphone has already been put through paces on benchmarks and the listings have revealed some of its crucial specifications and features. The Mi Note 2 could sport at 5.5-inch or a 5.7-inch QHD (2560 1440pixels) super AMOLED dual-edge curved display, which Xiaomi is likely to source from Samsung. In case of the Galaxy S7 edge or the Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung uses the edge display for showing notifications, weather updates, breaking news and more. Sliding from the other edge offers quick access to your frequent contacts. It will be interesting what kind of functionality Xiaomi adds to the edge display. At the heart of the smartphone, Qualcomm s powerful Snapdragon 821 quad-core chipset along with 6GB of RAM is expected. Coming to onboard storage 64GB, 128GB and 256GB options are expected.
In the photography department, the Mi Note 2 could come with 16-megapixel dual cameras at the back. This will make it Xiaomi s third smartphone to come with such as setup after Redmi Pro and Mi 5s Plus. While the Redmi Pro uses one camera capture photos and the other to capture depth and add DSLR-like blur effects later, the Mi 5s Plus leverages Qualcomm s latest ClearSight technology for capturing better photos with less noise. It uses one RGB color sensor and a monochrome sensor to achieve this. ALSO READ: Xiaomi Mi Note 2 clears China s 3C certification ahead of rumored September 14 launch
For selfie lovers, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera is likely to be in tow. To keep the smartphone ticking, it could come armed with a massive 4,000mAh battery along with support for Qualcomm s Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging. On the connectivity front, the Mi Note 2 could come with dual SIM card slots, 4G LTE with VoLTE HD voice calling support, NFC, GPS Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.
On the software front, the smartphone could run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8. It could also feature the Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that we have seen on the Mi 5s. Some recent leaks also hinted at Pro version of Mi Note 2. It could pack 8GB of RAM, 256GB onboard storage and Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI 8. There could be a remote possibility that today s leaked photos could be the Mi Note 2 Pro, but we won t bet on it as of now.
Clearly, Xiaomi is upping its game to compete with top manufacturers out there by bringing out the best in its smartphones at relatively lower costs.
