As expected, Xiaomi today launched the Redmi 2 and the Mi Pad in India, priced at Rs 6,999 and Rs 12,999 respectively. The Mi Pad is the first tablet in Xiaomi s portfolio, and was launched in China last year. The Mi Pad sports a 7.9-inch display with 4:3 aspect ratio, which puts it squarely against Apple s iPad mini. The tablet sports a plastic back sporting multiple colors, which seems like an iPad mini decked in iPhone 5C-like colors. In India however, the company is only bringing the white variant.
As far as specifications go, the Mi Pad sports a 7.9-inch (2048 1536 pixels) display with 326ppi, and is powered by a 2.2GHz Nvidia Tegra K1 processor with 192-core Kepler GPU, paired with 2GB of RAM.
Also included is 16GB internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. The tablet also features an 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a non-removable 6,700mAh battery. On the software front, the tablet runs on MIUI 6 out-of-the-box.
Like the Redmi 2, the Mi Pad too will go on sale via Flipkart on March 24. But unlike the entry-level smartphone, the tablet will be available for buyers without the need for registrations.
