In the Android space, it is nigh impossible to find a flagship device with a display size of less than 5-inch. For a brief time Sony had its Compact series, but lately even those have become more of a premium mid-range offering. But if the reports out of China are to be believed, Xiaomi is working on changing that. Looking at the renders, there’s not a lot that stands out in terms of design. The front sort of reminds us of an affordable Redmi smartphone, while the back panel resembles the flagship Mi 5 smartphone. It seems to feature a curved back panel, a metallic frame, and a sheet of 2.5D curved glass at the front. Despite ‘compact’ being the theme, the smartphone features dimensions of 128.3×64.2×8.2mm, and it weighs 138 grams. To sort of put these numbers into perspective, the Apple iPhone 6s features dimensions of 138.3×67.1×7.1mm, and weighs 143 grams.
Xiaomi Mi S specifications
Th e Xiaomi Mi S is said to feature a 4.6-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display with 600 nits brightness, and 2.5D curved glass on top. Under the hood will be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. There will also be 128GB onboard storage on offer, but there is currently no word on whether there will be a microSD card slot.
For photography, the smartphone is expected to be equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, Sony IMX378 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, phase detection auto-focus, and 4K video capturing capabilities. This image sensor incidentally is also present on the Google Pixel, and we all know just how good its camera is. Up front, the Mi S is likely to feature a 4-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture, and 1080p video recording capabilities.
The Mi S is also expected to feature a 2,600mAh battery with support for Quick Charging 3.0, a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button up front, and connectivity options like 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, 3.5mm audio jack, and USB Type-C port.
There is currently no word on the pricing or a launch date for the Xiaomi Mi S. Looking at the quality of the promotional materials, it is difficult to say just how authentic they are, so we will advice the usual dose of caution. Nonetheless, we must admit, the Mi S seems like an interesting device, and just what users with smaller hands crave. ALSO READ: Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 rumored to launch in India in January 2017
