After taking the Indian smartphone market by storm, it seems that Xiaomi is well on track to secure the top position in the consumer electronics segment. Earlier this year, the Chinese technology major introduced its range of Smart TVs in India, going on to sell 500,000 units in the first six months. Now, a report by IDC has revealed that Xiaomi led the Smart TV segment in India, in the second quarter of 2018.
Making its debut in the segment in Q1 2018, Xiaomi tripled its shipments over the next quarter, becoming the leader in the category. A few months back, Xiaomi Global’s VP Manu Kumar Jain had told BGR India that the company’s 43-inch Mi TV 4A has been the company’s best-selling Smart TV in India till date.
“This achievement marks an industry first and is a key milestone for Xiaomi India. Mi LED TVs recently became the most rated TV on Flipkart with over 100,000 ratings and have garnered a lot of love from users across India,” he had noted.
India is clearly a key market for Xiaomi, and the company has been aggressively expanding its product line-up in the country. At its Smarter Living event in Bengaluru last week, Xiaomi launched a slew of smart products in India. These included a new series of Smart TVs, Mi Band 3 fitness tracker, Mi Air Purifier 2S, Mi Home Security Camera 360, and Mi Luggage.

Back in August, the company launched Poco F1, the first smartphone under its newly-created Poco sub-brand, in the country. The smartphone offers flagship-grade hardware (notably, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC) at an aggressive starting price of Rs 20,999.
