Xiaomi started its foray into India with smartphones, and it expectedly remains the company s main product line. However, the Chinese company has periodically launched a lot of other products in varying categories, including devices from its ecosystem range. Today, it s possible to buy Xiaomi powerbanks, headphones, speakers, fitness trackers, air purifiers, routers and even t-shirts. The Mi TV 4 is currently the premium smart TV available from Xiaomi today, and is available in various size (going up to 65 inches) and form factors in the company s home market of China. In India, only the 55-inch Mi TV 4 has been launched, priced at Rs 39,999. The variant sold in India has its software specially designed for India, and includes improved integration with set-top boxes, cable and direct-to-home TV subscriptions.
When it comes to hardware, the Mi TV 4 has a 55-inch 4K-resolution LED screen. The TV supports HDR playback, which offers improved colors, brightness and contrast. The TV is notably only 4.9mm thick at the panel, and features a near-frameless design with narrow bezels around the screen. The TV is powered by an Amlogic 64-bit quad core processor with a Mali T830 GPU for smart functionality, and has 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage for apps.
The Mi TV 4 also features Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. You also get the Mi Remote, which along with the IR emitter, can also control any other electronics that are connected to your TV, including set-top boxes, Blu-Ray players and the like. For sound, the TV features support for Dolby and DTS tuning and has three HDMI ports and two USB ports, with one supporting USB 3.0.
As mentioned, the Xiaomi Mi TV 4 features a special version of PatchWall, the company s user interface for its TVs. The interface has been designed for India, with language support for 15 Indian languages, 500,000 hours of special content in collaboration with streaming content providers in India, personalized recommendations, universal search and deeper integration with set-top boxes. The TV includes a special electronic program guide that can fetch TV programming based on your direct-to-home or cable provider, and displays channel and show information on the main UI itself.
Additionally, the Mi remote can be configured to control your set-top box, using an IR emitter that sends signals from the TV to the box. Using this, it s possible to have only a single remote for all functionality. Xiaomi hopes that these features will make the smart TV experience more meaningful for users in India. The Xiaomi Mi TV 4 will be available to buy exclusively through Flipkart and mi.com/in, and will eventually be sold through Xiaomi s offline Mi Home stores as well.
