Xiaomi has set the cat among the pigeons by announcing the Mi 3 in India. With top specs like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 chipset clubbed with 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch full HD 1080p IPS display and the works, the Mi 3 could easily trump most of the smartphones priced around Rs 25,000. But by pricing it at just Rs 14,999, we now finally have a worthy competitor to Motorola’s Moto G, which so far has been our favorite smartphone in the Rs 15,000 price segment. In terms of specifications, the Xiaomi Mi 3 blows the Moto G. There is no comparison and a worthier comparison for the Mi 3 would be the higher-end Moto X. Not only does the Mi3 have a better display, processor and RAM, it also has a better set of 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear cameras, and a bigger 3,050mAh battery. Hardware wise, the Mi 3 wins hands down. Also Read - Xiaomi 200W fast charging to reduce 20 percent of full battery capacity in 2 years
The only areas where the Moto G wins is when it comes to Android updates and its resistance to water and dust. The Moto G is getting upgraded to Android 4.4.4 KitKat and is also expected to get upgraded to Android L whenever the update is made available by Google. The Xiaomi Mi 3, however, remains on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and runs MIUI v5 on top. It remains to be seen whether Xiaomi updates MIUI as frequently as it does in China.
Overall, we believe that the Moto G finally has some competition.
