Xiaomi has launched a portable mosquito repellent device in China. Called the MIJIA Portable Mosquito Repeller, the device is available for $4, which is Rs 270 approximately. This tiny little handy device is fueled by a power bank. So, instead of looking for an electric switch board to plug in the mosquito repellent, this smart device can be carried around anywhere and will work using a power bank. The device has a diameter of 4.6 cm, smaller than a tennis ball.
The MIJIA Portable Mosquito Repeller, unlike many other gadgets with mosquito repelling technology, does not work on sound wave technology. Instead it works with a mosquito mat that has to be inserted in it before powering it. The device uses a heat resistant material and PTC Thermistors. The heating plate in the device is made of stainless steel. According to a test conducted by Xiaomi, using a 10,000 mAh Mi power bank, the MIJIA Portable Mosquito Repeller lasts about 13 hours, and a 20,000 mAh power bank caters for close to double of that time.
The MIJIA Portable Mosquito Repeller has been launched only in China right now. It is priced at 29 Yuan or $4, which would be Rs 270 approximately. Right now there’s no word on the availability of the device outside China.
Well, this is not the first gadget that has been launched to get rid of mosquitoes in a ‘smart’ way. Last month, LG Electronics had launched a TV with Mosquito Away technology, which claimed to get rid of all mosquitoes from a house in a soundless, odorless and invisible manner.
