The Xiaomi Poco F1 set the mid-range and premium smartphone segments in India on fire last month, when the Chinese smartphone maker showed that it’s possible to have a device with top-end hardware at just Rs 20,999. We were impressed with the device in our review as well, particularly how well it performed. However, there was something we weren’t very impressed with about the Xiaomi Poco F1: the way it felt.
It seems that has been the case the world over, and indeed hardly anyone has anything good to say about a plastic phone. And while plastic certainly raises questions about durability, it’s hard to find anyone willing to bet Rs 21,000 and more on answering those questions. That’s exactly what YouTube creator JerryRigEverything is for. The popular video creator has just released a durability test of the Poco F1, and reports that the phone comes out on top.
In the video, the Xiaomi Poco F1 is put through a variety of durability tests straight out of the box. The first of these tests the durability of the Gorilla Glass screen, which is said to be resistant to basic scratches from objects such as keys and coins that may be in your pocket. Also pointed out during the test is that the phone has very little water resistance, the plastic body is less resistant to scratches and scuffs than metal or glass, and that the fingerprint sensor on the phone is entirely resistant to basic scratches.
The key part of the durability test is of course, the bend test, which is carried out last. The Xiaomi Poco F1 is put through four bend tests, and shows no damage even after this. While the phone does flex a fair bit, it needs far more than a ordinary amount of pressure to do any serious damage. “The Poco F1 might be one of the most structurally sound phones Xiaomi has ever made”, concludes Zack from JerryRigEverything.
