By launching the Poco F1, Xiaomi clearly set a new benchmark in the smartphone segment for offering premium features at such a low cost. Priced just at Rs 20,990, the Poco F1 easily competes with the likes of the OnePlus 6 and Asus Zenfone 5Z, both of whom cost more than Rs 30,000. But while the smartphone is great in the hardware department, a few reports have suggested it to face minor problems in the software department. However, now Xiaomi has started rolling out an OTA update for its custom Poco MIUI, to polish off minor issues and bring in some new features and better system stability.
According to MySmartPrice, the new update is dubbed as MIUI v9.6.18 and is 335MB in size. Users might have already started getting a notification for it. One of the biggest additions is being made to the camera app, which for starters now has been optimized to open and process images faster. The interface also seems to have changed slightly. Now, there is direct access to the beautification mode for the front camera, where users can choose between 5 levels of beautification or even turn it off if needed.
Besides that, the update also optimizes the performance of the dual microphones to deliver a better audio recording quality. It also fixes the issue where multiple apps were failing to launch properly along with the Virtual buttons, which the changelog says were offset.
Lastly, an app called Mi Roaming seems to have been deleted. The app allows users to use mobile data without swapping SIM card when traveling in different countries. Xiaomi could have decided to delete the app on basis of its users showing less interest in it. That said, it’s great to see Xiaomi reduce the amount of bloatware that the general audience might not use.
