Xiaomi Redmi 1S: Sold out in seconds, delivered in weeks

Earlier today Xiaomi s entry-level Redmi 1S went on sale on Flipkart, and not surprisingly the sale was over in a matter of seconds 4.2 seconds to be precise. While this has become associated with the flash sales, Xiaomi has pulled out a shocker by selling a smartphone it doesn t have in stock. xiaomi-redmi-1s-delivery-date_1Flipkart s Redmi 1S page mentions that the smartphone will be delivered in 7-10 days, but the moment buyers reached the payment page, the expected delivery date had been changed to September 16. It is quite baffling why Xiaomi would fool its customers by selling a phone, when it apparently didn t have the stocks in the first place. RELATED: Xiaomi is ramping up manufacturing for the Redmi 1S India launch with the learnings of Mi 3: Hugo Barra

Hugo Barra had earlier apologized to customers for the Mi 3 fiasco, which left a lot of buyers frustrated. He also said that the company would learn and won t repeat the mistakes when it launched the Redmi 1S. He also promised that there would be more units available for buyers on launch date. Turns out he and the company haven t quite stuck to their promises. Yes, there were more units available on Flipkart (40,000), but in truth the stocks were just numbers, and in reality are not yet ready to be shipped to buyers.

In this current scenario, it is surprising Xiaomi has even planned its second sale for next week on September 9. Those who bought a smartphone in the first sale won’t be getting their phones by the time Xiaomi begins taking orders for the next one. It would thus make little sense for others to pay for a smartphone not knowing when it would be delivered to them.

The Redmi 1S, priced at Rs 5,999, has a lot of promise with the tempting combination of specifications and price tag. But if Xiaomi deceives its customers, it will be hardly surprising if they give up on the brand.
