Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 2 Enhanced in Singapore today, which features double the amount of RAM and internal storage than the Redmi 2. This was earlier launched as the Redmi 2 Limited Edition in China. The name change suggests Xiaomi plans to launch it as a regular variant of the Redmi 2 rather than selling it in limited numbers. The Redmi 2 features 1GB of RAM, and 8GB internal storage that can be expanded using a microSD card. The Redmi 2 Limited Edition/Enhanced features 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage. The rest of the specifications remain the same. As for pricing, it will retail in Singapore at $179 or Rs 11,376 approximately.
Along with launching the Redmi 2 in India back in March, Xiaomi revealed that it would soon be launching the Limited Edition in the country as well. Earlier this week, Xiaomi gave the Redmi 2 a price cut of Rs 1,000, which brings the price down to Rs 5,999. The price cut and the launch in Singapore could be an indication that the company will soon launch the smartphone in India as well.
To recap, the Redmi 2 features a 4.7-inch HD IPS display, 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 quad-core 64-bit processor, 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 2,200mAh battery. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card, LTE support, Wi-Fi, USB OTG, Bluetooth, and it runs on MIUI 6.
