Last week we reported about Xiaomi’s plans to soon launch the affordable Redmi 3s smartphone in India. Now, the Chinese company has revealed its exact plans, with the Redmi 3s set to be launched on August 3. Xiaomi will also be live streaming the launch event, which kicks off at 12:00PM IST on August 3. As the name suggests, the upcoming smartphone is essentially a variant of the Redmi 3 boasting a full-metal magnesium alloy unibody design and a fingerprint scanner. Two variants of the device was launched in China — 16GB and 32GB. The 32GB variant comes with 3GB of RAM and is priced at 899 Yuan (Rs 9,000 approximately). In India, we expect the Redmi 3s to be placed below the Redmi Note 3 in the Rs 7,000-Rs 9,000 price range. In this segment, the smartphone will compete against the likes of the Lenovo Vibe K5, Reliance Digital LYF Wind 5, and CoolPad Note 3 Lite to name a few. Xiaomi Redmi 3s specifications
The Redmi 3s launched in China features a 5-inch HD (1280 720 pixels) display, Qualcomm s Snapdragon 430 octa-core chipset, 2GB of RAM for the 16GB variant, and 3GB of RAM for the 32GB variant. There is also a hybrid SIM card slot that lets you insert a microSD card to expand internal storage.

On the photography front, the Xiaomi Redmi 3s comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF) support, while up front is a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The 16GB variant comes with a 4,000mAh battery, while the 32GB variant comes with a 4,100mAh battery.

It also includes a fingerprint scanner placed at the back, and connectivity options include 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, and GPS. It will be interesting to see if Xiaomi launches Redmi 3s in India with the exact same set of specifications and features, or it makes a few modifications like it did with the Redmi Note 3.
