This is the first Xiaomi product launch in India, post the departure of Hugo Barra in January. The Redmi 3s range — includes Redmi 3s, Redmi 3s Prime, Redmi 3s+ — has been very popular for the Chinese company, and it has managed to sell over 3 million units in just about seven months. Succeeding this series is the Redmi 4A, which was launched in China back in November. Also Read - Redmi Note 11S India launch set on Feb 9: Here's a closer look at the device, expected specs

Xiaomi Redmi 4A specifications, features

As far as specifications are concerned, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A sports a 5-inch HD (720p) IPS display, and is powered by Qualcomm s 64-bit Snapdragon 425 quad-core chipset paired with Adreno 308GPU. The smartphone comes with 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded using a microSD card.

For photography, the Redmi 4A is equipped with a 13-megapixel primary camera of aperture f/2.2 and 5-element lens, accompanied by a single LED flash, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera up front with an aperture of f/2.2. Unlike the Redmi 3s series, the Redmi 4A doesn t come with a huge battery. Instead there is a 3,120mAh unit underneath. There s also no fingerprint sensor onboard.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots with a hybrid setup. In other words, you can either use two SIM cards, or a combination of a SIM card and a microSD card. Other connectivity options include 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android Marshmallow-based MIUI 8. The operating system supports dual apps feature, allowing you to have two WhatsApp accounts on one device. The smartphone also comes with an Infrared sensor, allowing you to use it as a remote for your audio and video equipment, air conditioner, television sets and more.

As far as competition is concerned, there are no real noteworthy smartphones in the sub-Rs 7,000 range. In a manner of speaking, the market is open for Xiaomi to take advantage of. Some of the smartphones that do come close include the Moto E3 Power and Samsung Galaxy J1 4G.
