Xiaomi is set to hold another event in the country, where it is expected to launch the affordable Redmi 4A. The company sent out invites for a press briefing on March 20, which kicks off at 1.30 PM. Though it doesn’t spell out the words Redmi 4A, but the invite makes it almost clear that the Redmi 4A is the new entrant in the Indian market.

The Xiaomi Redmi 4A was launched in the Chinese market back in November 2016, along the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime. The Redmi 4A was the cheapest among the Redmi 4 series that was launched, priced at RMB 499, which translates to approximately Rs 5,000. And the fact that the smartphone comes with such an affordable price tag and features 4G VoLTE support and is powered by a Snapdragon 425 is its high point.

Redmi 4A specification and features

The Redmi 4A variant, even though the cheapest, features a premium looking metal body. It comes with a 5-inch IPS screen with 720p resolution. It is powered by Snapdragon 425 chipset with a quad-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 processor, and Adreno 308 GPU, which is accompanied by 2GB of RAM. The Redmi 4A has 16GB built-in storage and supports expandable storage through microSD card (via a hybrid SIM slot).

On the photography front, the Redmi 4A comes with 13-megapixel primary camera, accompanied by a single LED flash. On the front, it sports a 5-megapixel camera. There is no fingerprint scanner on the Redmi 4A. It is fuelled by a 3,120mAh battery. The smartphone runs MIUI 8 based on Android Marshmallow. The smartphone was launched in China in gold and rose gold colour variants.

Back in January, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 4, which saw tremendous success in India. In just about 45 days, the company managed to sell a million units of the Redmi Note 4. To put things in perspective, the smartphone features a 5.5-inch full HD display, sports a 13-megapixel PDAF rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera.

Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 SoC. The Redmi Note 4 is offered in three variants – 2GB RAM + 32GB storage priced at Rs 9,999, the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage priced at Rs 10,999, and the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage priced at Rs 12,999. Other connectivity options like hybrid dual SIM card slots, 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, USB and Bluetooth. It draws its juice from a 4,100mAh battery. On the software front, it runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow based on MIUI 8.
