Last month Xiaomi launched its Desh ka smartphone the Redmi 5A in India. Not surprisingly, the Redmi 5A was exclusive to Flipkart. However, if a report is to be believed, the smartphone is now selling offline, at a price of Rs 7,499. According to 91Mobiles, Xiaomi has started to sell the 3GB RAM variant of the Redmi 5A via offline stores across India. For a while now, Xiaomi has been really focusing on offline sales in India. Currently, online sales account for 80 percent of the company s mobile phone business, But now we want to increase penetration in the offline market to increase our business, Xiaomi India Head (Online Sales) Raghu Reddy had said.
Back in November, Xiaomi said it expects 30 percent of its sales in India to come through offline stores by this year-end. Offline is growing at a fast pace for us In July- August (2017), about 20 percent of our sales were coming through offline channels. We hope this will increase to 30 percent by end of the year or early next year, Xiaomi India Head Manu Kumar Jain was quoted as saying. Xiaomi sells its products through offline channels like large format stores, multi-brand outlets and its own Mi Homes.
Earlier this year, Xiaomi announced its second manufacturing unit in partnership with Taiwanese electronics major Foxconn in Andhra Pradesh. With the new manufacturing plant also at Sri City, in Andhra Pradesh, it was estimated that more than 95 percent of Xiaomi s smartphones sold in India will be manufactured in the country. And with the second plant, Xiaomi now has a combined production capacity of one phone per second during operational hours.

As for the Redmi 5A, it has been one of the highlights for Xiaomi in India this year. During its first sale on Flipkart, Xiaomi announced that the smartphone went out of stock almost immediately. As for specifications, Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor. It is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Fuelling the device is a 3,000mAh battery. The smartphone comes in two variants a 16GB with 2GB RAM, and a 32GB variant with 3GB RAM.
