Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5A in India last month. Today, the company is putting the smartphone on sale for the first time. The sale will commence at 12:00PM via Flipkart and mi.com. The smartphone is priced at Rs 5,999 and Rs 6,999 for the 16GB and 32GB variant, respectively. However, the company is offering an additional discount of Rs 1,000 for the first five million customers who choose the 2GB RAM/16GB internal storage variant. So, the revised price of the smartphone stands at Rs 4,999. After applying the Rs 1,000 discount, the price of the smartphone is down to Rs 3,999. In order to get the cashback, Reliance Jio customers will be required to recharge with Rs 199 every month for the next 12 months. Reliance Jio says that the cashback will be given in the form of 10 coupons which will be worth Rs 100 each. However, the first recharge should be done between December 5 to November 30, 2018. Apart from that, mi.com is also offering protection against accidental and liquid damage with Mi protect for a price starting Rs 499. Additionally, if you are a Reliance Jio customer, you can get up to Rs 1,000 cashback with Jio Digital Life.
Xiaomi Redmi 5A specifications, features
The Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch HD display, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor. For photography, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and a f/2.2 aperture. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie camera.
The smartphone also features a 3,000mAh battery, which the company claims is good enough to last for more than a day. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. On the software front, the device runs on Android Nougat-based MIUI 9. The Redmi 5A competes against the Nokia 2 and Moto C Plus in the affordable segment.
