Xiaomi launched its Redmi 6 series of smartphones recently in India. Part of that is the Redmi 6 Pro, which runs on Android 8.1 Oreo based MIUI 9.6 underneath the hood. That said, after the launch, Xiaomi did announce through a tweet that it will be updating all the smartphones to MIUI 10 soon and had already sent out invitations looking for beta testers for the Redmi 6 Pro, claiming the testing to begin sometime early in October. Now, however there has been change of plans.

According to a report from Android Soul, Xiaomi is rolling out the beta MIUI 10 update starting next week. The update is dubbed as MIUI 10 beta 8.9.20 and will essentially be based on Android 8.1 Oreo. We’re not sure if Xiaomi plans to upgrade the Redmi 6 Pro with Android 9 Pie. But while that remains to be seen, users can expect a final version of the MIUI 10 rollout sometime in the next few weeks. The stable version of the ROM has already been rolled out in China, as the device had launched in the country back in June.

To quickly recall, the Redmi 6 Pro comes powered by a Snapdragon 625 SoC and features a 5.84-inch FHD+ notch display with 19:9 aspect ratio. It is available in two RAM and storage configurations of 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. There is also support for expandable storage of up to 256GB via microSD card.

It is priced at Rs 10,999 and Rs 12,999 for the 32GB and the 64GB storage variants, respectively.
