Xiaomi has come to be known as a smartphone company that always includes the infrared sensor on most of its smartphones and hasn t failed to include the feature in any of its devices up until now. Now GizmoChina reports that they first noticed in the hands-on photos posted by ITHome, that the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A seemed to be missing the IR blaster. Even the official Xiaomi website corroborates this find and it seems the Chinese smartphone maker has finally decided to drop the IR blaster. But even without the IR blaster the Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A are good value for money in terms of the Chinese release.

Both smartphones come with a 5.45-inch HD+ display that runs at a resolution of 1440x720pixels, and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Connectivity options on both smartphones are also the same, which includes dual SIM card slots, Bluetooth, 4G LTE with VoLTE HD voice calling, Wi-Fi and GPS. However, the differences come in the form of the cameras, storage, RAM and the chipset powering the smartphone.
The Redmi 6A is powered by a MediaTek Helio A22 quad-core SoC fabricated on 12nm process, and clocked at 2GHz. It is paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage with a microSD card slot for further expansion. In terms of optics, the smartphone comes with a single rear camera of 13-megapixel resolution with LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling. The Redmi 6A also supports face unlock and ditches the fingerprint sensor.
The Redmi 6, on the other hand, is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core SoC fabricated on 12nm process, and clocked at 2GHz. It is offered in two variants 3GB RAM with 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. In the photography department, the Redmi 6 comes with dual cameras at the back a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. Up front is a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling. The smartphone also comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back. To keep things ticking, both smartphones are armed with a 3,000mAh battery.
