Xiaomi first put up a teaser of Redmi 6, Redmi 6 Pro and Redmi 6A launch in India, with multiple events taking place on September 5 in Delhi, and September 7 in Mumbai. Out of the three smartphones, the Redmi 6A comes with a notched display, and will be closely competing with the Honor 7A and Realme 2 Pro. YU Ace launched in India
After teasing the smartphone launch over the past few days, the sub-brand of Micromax, YU has made a comeback with a budget smartphone called Ace. The YU Ace is priced at Rs 5,999 and comes with a 4,000mAh battery, 18:9 display and a fingerprint scanner to take on the Redmi 5A. Running on Android Oreo, the smartphone will be updated to Android Pie in November.
Sony Xperia XZ3 announced at IFA 2018
Sony mid-year smartphone refresh is here. Successor to the Xperia XZ2, the new Xperia XZ3 comes with a 6-inch QHD+ 18:9 OLED display with Samsung Galaxy S9 like curved edge screen. The smartphone also comes with a front and back glass design, single rear camera, and a fingerprint scanner. One of the interesting bits about the smartphone is that it runs Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box.
HTC U12 Life announced at IFA 2018
HTC has also announced the U12 Life smartphone ahead of IFA 2018. The smartphone comes with a dual texture glass back, giving it a distinct look and feel. Powered by Snapdragon 636 SoC, it comes with dual cameras at the back and a 13-megapixel front camera. It will go on sale sometime in September.
Uber announces Uber Air drone taxi service
At the Uber Elevate Expo in Tokyo, Japan, the cab-hailing service announced Uber Air, aerial ridesharing service. Over the next five-year period, the company will expand the service in select cities with to ease out road congestion due to growing population. India is a part of Uber s plan, with Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru among list of possible destinations.
For instance, in Mumbai, it takes about 100 minutes to travel a 22km distance from airport to Churchgate station, which Uber Air will reportedly cut down to 10 minutes.
