Xiaomi launched the Redmi 6A in India on September 5. It appears that the smartphone is ready to take on the mantle of being the best budget smartphone in the sub-Rs 7,000 category, which its predecessor, the Redmi 5A has held for very long.
However, this time around, the journey won’t be easy for Xiaomi. The budget segment right now is packed with more competition than it was over a year ago. We’ve seen big brands enter the segment lately with interesting offerings. Out of that, we believe the Honor 7S and Amazon’s 10.or D2 to stand out as great contenders against the Xiaomi Redmi 6A. But can any one of the smartphones triumph over the other, let’s do a quick comparison of their features and find out.
Pricing and availability
The Honor 7S is priced at Rs 6,999 and is the only one of three smartphones to be available exclusively on Flipkart. The smartphone is sold through flash sales on the ecommerce website, with the next one scheduled for September 14 at 2:00PM.
The 10.or D2 is offered exclusively on Amazon India. The smartphone comes in two variants. The base variant which packs in 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage is priced at Rs 6,999, while the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant is priced at Rs 7,999.
Similarly, the Xiaomi Redmi 6A will also be available exclusively on Amazon India. The smartphone however is likely to be sold through flash sales as well, with the first one being hosted on September 19 at 12:00PM. The Redmi 6A is also available in two variants. Both come with 2GB of RAM but are loaded with 16GB and 32GB storage. They are priced at Rs 5,999 and Rs 6,999, respectively.
Display and design
Following the current trend, all three smartphones feature a 5.45-inch HD+ display, which comes with a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. It’s no surprise, as pretty much every other smartphone in that category carries the same scree size and resolution.
That said, the smartphones do differ in terms of build and design. The Honor 7S sports a fancy look. It features a metallic unibody build, with a matte finish at the back. The smartphone is available in three color variants of Black, Blue and Gold. The 10.or D2 and Redmi 6A on the other hand flaunt a simple yet premium design. They have metal body with a smooth finish at the back. However, those opting for 10.or D2 have to choose only between Black and Gold variants, while those who are looking to buy the Redmi 6A have the option to choose between four color options of Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Blue.
Processor and battery
Falling in the budget segment, all three smartphones come powered by quad-core processors. However, the model numbers differ. The Honor 7S packs in a MediaTek MT6739 chipset, while the 10.or D2 is backed by a Snapdragon 425 SoC. They feature clock speeds of 1.5GHz and 1.4GHz respectively. That said, Redmi 6A comes powered with a much powerful MediaTek Helio P22 chipset, which flaunts maximum clock speeds of 2.0GHz.
In the battery department, there isn’t a very big difference between the three smartphones. The Honor 7S is armed with a 3,020mAh battery, while the 10.or D2 comes with a 3,200mAh battery. The Redmi 6A sticks to the same battery capacity as its predecessor, which is 3,000mAh to keep things ticking.
All three smartphones seem at par in the camera department as well. All the smartphones come with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera for taking selfies. While the numbers seem the same, the front camera on the Honor 7S and Xiaomi Redmi 6A support face unlock. The feature is not supported on the 10.or D2.
Operating system and connectivity features
On the software side of things, all three smartphones run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-box, but come with different UI skins layered on top of them. The Honor 7S features Honor’s proprietary EMUI 8.0, while The Redmi 6A features MIUI 9.6, which is expected to get updated to MIUI 10 at a later stage. The 10.or D2 on the other hand offers a close to stock Android experience, with a few Amazon apps loaded on-board.
