Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 vs Redmi 2 Prime: Price, specifications, features compared



Earlier today at an event in China, Xiaomi took wraps off the Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 2 Prime and the refreshed MIUI 7 firmware with a bunch of new features. A couple of days back, Xiaomi also launched the first “Made in India” smartphone, the Redmi 2 Prime. We’ve pitted the Redmi Note 2 against Redmi 2 Prime to see how well they fare.

Price: The Redmi Note 2 is priced at RMB 899, which is approximately Rs 9,103. The Redmi 2 Prime retails for Rs 6,999 and is available to purchase from Xiaomi’s online store and also from other online retailers such as Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon.

Specifications: With 5.5-inch full HD display (1080p) and dimensions of 152x76x8.25mm, the Redmi Note 2 phablet weighs 160 grams. On the other hand, the Redmi 2 Prime with 4.7-inch HD display (720p) and dimensions of 134x67x9mm weighs just 133 grams.

The Redmi Note 2 is powered by MediaTek MT6795 octa-core 2GHz Cortex-A53 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM and PowerVR G6200 GPU. The Redmi 2 Prime is powered by Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor and paired with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 306 GPU.

On the storage front, both the Redmi Note 2 comes with 16GB of internal storage , but it lacks any scope of further expansion. The Redmi 2 Prime comes with 16GB of internal storage and microSD card slot for further expansion up to 32GB.

The camera on Redmi Note 2 is a 13-megapixel shooter with LED flash. It also comes with a 5-megapixel front facing camera. The Redmi 2 Prime sports an 8-megapixel main camera with LED flash and a front facing 2-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling.   

When it comes to connectivity, both the Redmi Note 2 and the Redmi 2 Prime include support for 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and dual-SIM card slot. The Redmi Note 2 features a 3,060mAh battery whereas the Redmi 2 Prime comes with a 2,200mAh battery. According to Xiaomi, the battery on these phones is decent enough to sail through the day.

Features: The Redmi Note 2 comes shipped with Android Lollipop OS along with the refreshed MIUI 7 firmware running on top. The new UI includes features such as facial recognition support in photo gallery, a new MI Roaming app and video ringtones for contacts. The Redmi 2 Prime on the other hand ships with Android KitKat OS along with MIUI 6 interface.
