Xiaomi today launched the Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime in China. There are some key differences between the two phablets and we comprehensively highlight them below. Price: The Redmi Note 2 is priced at RMB 799 (Rs 8,080 approximately),while the variant supporting FDD-LTE networks is priced at RMB 899 (Rs 9,103 approximately). Display: Both the phablets flaunt 5.5-inch full HD (1920 1080 pixels) display, and Xiaomi claims that for night-time reading, the minimum brightness has been reduced nearly 10-times.
Processor: This is one of the major differentiating factors between the two phablets. Where the Redmi Note 2 is powered by a 2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core 64-bit processor, the Redmi Note 2 Prime is powered by a 2.2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core 64-bit processor. Both processors are paired with 2GB of RAM each.
Storage: This is another significant difference between the two phablets. The Redmi Note 2 offers 16GB of storage, while the Redmi Note 2 Prime offers a better 32GB of storage. There is no option to expand memory.
Camera: There isn’t any difference when it comes to the camera hardware. Both feature a 13-megapixel Samsung/OV rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and 5-element lens. The camera comes with Phase Detection autofocus feature, which the company claims helps the camera focus in 0.1 seconds. Complimenting it is a 5-megapixel OmniVision selfie camera with Beautify mode.
Battery: The Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime both pack a 3,060mAh removable battery, which Xiaomi claims is good enough for up to 144 hours on standby time, and up to 11 hours of talk time.
OS: Again, both the phablets will run on the latest MIUI 7. The new firmware runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system and comes with many new themes and wallpapers. It also has a new Mi roaming app, Baby Photos app and comes with new facial recognition support for the Gallery.
