Android 9 Pie is out finally, and it has started rolling out for the Google Pixels, and also the Essential Phone. But that isn’t stopping developers from releasing unofficial ports for other popular smartphones.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is officially on Android Nougat after being updated from Marshmallow. But if you are feeling particularly adventurous, you could try out the latest Android 9 Pie on the most popular device of last year. Less than a week after the official release of Android Pie, a forum member on XDA Developers has released an unofficial port for the Redmi Note 4.
Based on the forum post, there are no major bugs affecting the release, and users will be able to experience all the features of the latest Android OS. But as with all such unofficial ports, there could be some hidden bug that could adversely affect your device. In the meanwhile, Xiaomi has been looking for beta testers for its Android Pie-based MIUI Global ROM for Mi MIX 2s. Those interested can head over to the MIUI forum app to apply, and be a part of the beta test. This test however is limited to MIUI users who are running the Global ROM.
