Xiaomi‘s next awaited smartphone from its affordable series is the Redmi Note 5. Successor to the popular Redmi Note 4, the smartphone has showed up in multiple leaks in the past, including some on certification websites. Adding to the leaks is the listing of the Redmi Note 5 on China’s JD.com revealing its specifications as well as the possible pricing when it is launched.
The listing confirms a number of past reports about the specifications the Redmi Note 5 will pack in it. The smartphone is expected to flaunt a FullView display which basically means, you will see thinner bezels on the front. As per the listing, the Redmi Note 5 will retail at 8,888 Yuan, Indian Express reports. The pricing translates to approximately Rs 88,760. Given that Xiaomi has never forayed int an uber premium segment, this is a rather exuberant price tag for humbler specifications.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has also passed TENAA certification last month, while its design has leaked through images in the past. Based on the leaked images, the smartphone could pack a 5.99-inch full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is likely to feature a metallic rear with a single camera unit placed alongside the LED flash and a fingerprint sensor.
It is expected to be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core SoC with Adreno 509 GPU. The smartphone could arrive in three variants based on storage and memory, including 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage, 4GB RAM + 32GB internal storage, and 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage models. Fueling the smartphone will be a 4,000mAh battery. ALSO READ: Xiaomi becomes top smartphone vendor in India in Q3, 2017: IDC
In the photography department, the Redmi Note 5 is likely to feature a dual-camera module. The setup is expected to include a combination of 16-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel sensor with LED flash. Up front, there could be a 12-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling. However, there have been contradictory reports indicating the presence of a single 12-megapixel camera at the back, along with a 5-megapixel camera up front. It is likely to run Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.
Now that almost all the details about the smartphone are out, we could expect it to go official soon. Based on reports, the device is not aimed at the premium segment and is likely to be unveiled by the end of the year or early 2018.
