Xiaomi today launched the new Redmi Note 6 Pro in India, less than 10 months after launching the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The new Xiaomi smartphone comes with some key changes in the camera department, you now get a notched display, and much more.
The Redmi Note 6 Pro will be available via Flipkart, mi.com/in and Mi Home stores. The first sale will take place on November 23 at 12:00PM. If you are planning to buy one, here’s a look at everything that is different in the Redmi Note 6 Pro compared to the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Price in India
The Redmi Note 6 Pro is priced at Rs 13,999 for the base model, and Rs 15,999 for the top-end model. On the first day of sale, Xiaomi is offering Rs 1,000 discount, which means you can buy the base model for Rs 12,999, and the top model for Rs 14,999. There are other offers too, like HDFC Bank credit and debit card discount, Reliance Jio Rs 2,400 cashback, and exchange offers.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro, on the other hand, is also priced at Rs 13,999 for the base model, and the one with more RAM is priced at Rs 15,999.
One of the immediate changes you will notice is in the display. The Redmi Note 5 Pro featured a 5.99-inch full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The Redmi Note 6 Pro now features a slightly larger 6.26-inch full HD+ panel with an aspect ratio of 19:9. There is also a notch on top, which houses the dual front camera modules, proximity and ambient light sensors.
Improved dual rear cameras
Both the Redmi Note 6 Pro and the Redmi Note 5 Pro come with dual camera setup at the back, comprising of a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensor. However, there are a few changes though. The primary sensor on the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a pixel size of 1.25um, whereas the one on the Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with a pixel size of 1.4um. Also, you now get dual pixel auto-focus, compared to PDAF on the old device.
That’s not all, while the Redmi Note 5 Pro’s primary camera had an aperture of f/2.2, you now get a wider aperture of f/1.9 on the Redmi Note 6 Pro. This will allow for better low-light photography.
Dual front cameras
Xiaomi has also added dual cameras on the front. While the Redmi Note 6 Pro retains the primary front camera of 20-megapixel resolution as on the Redmi Note 5 Pro, you now also get a secondary 2-megapixel depth sensor to add DSLR-like bokeh effects to your photos. Both the front and rear cameras are backed by AI for scene detection to improve your photos.
Watch: Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 + 5 Pro Review
This was one of the USPs of the Moto G-series smartphones, and now, the Redmi Note 6 Pro also has it. Well, you don’t get IPXX certification, so you won’t be able to dunk it in the pool or in the ocean. However, the phone can handle minor accidental splashes of water or if it starts pouring unexpectedly.
Both the Redmi Note 6 Pro and Redmi Note 5 Pro run Android 8.1 Oreo OS, but there is a slight difference. The new smartphone comes with MIUI 10 skin out-of-the-box, and it comes with new interface, support for full screen gesture, and AI preload feature to cache the apps in background, thus cut down on the app startup time.
On the hardware front, there is nothing new. Both smartphones are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core SoC with 4GB/6GB of RAM, and 64GB storage. To keep things ticking, you get a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging feature. Connectivity options are also the same – dual SIM card slots with 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and Wi-Fi.
