Four months after unveiling the Redmi Note in India, Xiaomi has today launched the Android phablet at an event in New Delhi. The Redmi Note is priced at Rs 8,999, which is Rs 1,000 lower than what Xiaomi had announced in July. As expected, the phablet will go on sale on Flipkart on December 2, with pre-orders kicking off at 6.00PM tomorrow. Xiaomi has said that it has sold over 10 million Redmi Note handsets globally. As far as the specifications are concerned, the Redmi Note flaunts a 5.5-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) IPS display with a pixel density of 267ppi, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It is powered by a 1.7GHz Mediatek MT6592 octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Also Read - Xiaomi Mi Bluetooth Speaker 16W review: Good audio, great price
On the photography front, the phablet features a 13-megapixel autofocus camera at the back with LED flash, and a 5-megapixel camera on the front for selfie lovers. Additionally, the Redmi Note also features 8GB internal storage that can be further expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card, and a 3,100mAh battery (support for fast-charging), which according to the company is good enough for 14 hours of 3G Internet usage and 775 hours on standby mode.
Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and on the software front it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean wrapped under MIUI version 5.
There will also be 4G variant of the Redmi Note that will be released in the Indian markets alongside the base variant. This variant will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor with Adreno 305 GPU. Conectivity wise, this variant supports FDD-LTE at 1800MHz, TDD-LTE at 2300MHz and dual-band LTE, and only comes with a single SIM card slot. Apart from Flipkart, this variant will also be sold by Airtel in its 100 flagship stores across six cities. This marks Xiaomi’s first foray into offline retail in India, as up until now, they have only sold their handsets via flash sales on Flipkart. However, you still need to pre-register on the Airtel website to buy the 4G variant from an Airtel store. Redmi Note 4G will be available in the second half of December and is priced at Rs 9,999.
As mentioned above, like other Xiaomi smartphones, the Redmi Note too will go on sale exclusively on Flipkart on Decemeber 2. Pre-orders for the smartphone will kick off at 6.00PM tomorrow.
