While Barra hasn t revealed an exact date, it is in line with last month s report about Xiaomi s plans to launch the Redmi Note in India within the next two months. The report also quoted Barra as saying that the Redmi Note could be launched alongside the flagship Mi 4. He said that the company has been working on the logistics and the software before it launched the phones in India.
The Redmi Note phablet was announced in India earlier this year, along with the entry-level Redmi 1S. The phablet sports a 5.5-inch 720p IPS display, and is powered by a 1.7GHz Mediatek s MT6592 octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Additionally, the device also features 8GB internal storage, microSD card support, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, and a 3,100mAh battery. The phablet is priced at Rs 9,999, and will go on sale on Flipkart like the other Xiaomi smartphones.
Xiaomi s famous flash sales on Flipkart are seeing a temporary lull, as interest in the entry-level Redmi 1S has evidently waned in the past couple of weeks. The smartphone that sold out in a matter of seconds in the first few sales is still in stock these days even after an hour of going on sale. The launch of the Redmi Note and the Mi 4 however could bring back the days when Xiaomi s flash sales actually got over in a flash.
