Xiaomi recently launched the affordable Redmi S2 smartphone in China, and looks like the company is all geared up to bring it to the Indian shores. Xiaomi India tweeted about a smartphone launch for June 7 in New Delhi, and it is expected to be the Redmi S2. The smartphone features a 16-megapixel AI front camera, with an LED flash, and Xiaomi claims it is capable of capturing the best selfies in its price range.
Oppo is all set to introduce the Realme 1 smartphone under its online-only brand Realme. Taking a dig at Oppo, Xiaomi teaser reads “The #RealYou smartphone is coming.” Xiaomi India tweeted about the launch, with a caption that reads, “Every step in your life is defined by a selfie. Find yourself, #FindYourSelfie The BEST selfie smartphone is arriving soon. The BEST selfie smartphone is arriving soon.”

We know that Xiaomi is expected to launch smartphone in India, and with the teaser talking about best selfies, it clearly hints that the device is none other than the Redmi S2. However, the Redmi Y1 was launched last year as a selfie-centric device, and there are chances wherein Xiaomi may launched the Redmi S2 as Redmi Y2.

The smartphone flaunts a 5.99-inch HD+ display (1440×720 pixels), with an aspect ratio of 18:9. Under the hood, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC, paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, or 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, depending on the variant you choose.
For shutterbugs, the Redmi S2 comes with dual camera setup at the back – a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. For selfies and video calling, there is a 16-megapixel AI-powered front camera which comes with a dedicated portrait mode to add those bokeh effects to your selfies. It runs on Android Oreo OS with MIUI 9 skin on top.
Armed with a 3,080mAh battery, connectivity options include dual SIM card slots, Bluetooth, GPS and 4G LTE with VoLTE connectivity. In terms of security, the smartphone comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back, and face unlock feature too. Talking about the pricing, the 3GB variant is priced at RMB 999 (approximately Rs 10,500) in China, whereas the 4GB variant will set you back by RMB 1,299 (approximately Rs 13,800). However, there is no word on the India pricing.
