Xiaomi is hosting an event in China today to launch the much-anticipated Xiaomi Redmi S2. There has been a lot of buzz around the phone over the past few weeks. Earlier today, the phone was spotted on the AliExpress, confirming much of its features and specifications.
From what we know, the Redmi S2 is expected to be Xiaomi’s best selfie phone yet. The latest teaser by Xiaomi hints at the phone’s camera capabilities. Other reports had confirmed that the phone will be coming with a 16-megapixel front camera featuring Samsung’s S5K3P8SP sensor. It will also powered with AI to enhance the camera output, with the help of certain modes such as AI-assisted Portrait mode, AI-assisted Beauty mode and AI-assisted Face recognition.
At the back, the Redmi S2 will be packing a dual camera setup, which consists of a 12-megapixel primary sensor tagged alongside a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. The cameras are vertically aligned and will also be backed by AI.
The Xiaomi Redmi S2 will feature a 5.99-inch IPS LCD HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display. The listing on AliExpress also confirms that the phone will come loaded with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor. There are three different RAM and storage configurations listed. You have the option to choose from 2GB of RAM with 16GB of storage, 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage and 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage. There is also an option to expand the storage to 128GB with the help of a microSD card.

The Redmi S2 also supports dual SIM slots that are separate from the SD card slot. There is a fingerprint sensor at the back. It will be preloaded with Android 8.1 Oreo layered with MIUI 9. All of this is powered by a built-in 3080 mAh battery.
The listing on Aliexpress has the low-end variant of the phone priced at $165 (Rs. 11,120), with the 3GB and the 4GB variants priced at $188 (Rs. 12,670) and $229 (Rs. 15,433), respectively. There is no official news of the device coming to India, but the fact that there is global version of the phone listed on AliExpress, hints that the phone might launch soon in India and in other markets.
