Xiaomi has already revealed that it is working on a new smartphone featuring a 48-megapixel rear snapper. This smartphone will be launched sometime in January 2019. Now, according to the latest report, it will be a flagship-class smartphone with a full-screen display featuring a selfie-camera hole. Lenovo, Huawei and Samsung are already working on smartphones with an in-screen front camera, and Xiaomi is also reportedly adopting this new tech. With a 48-megapixel rear camera and in-screen selfie snapper, you would naturally expect the smartphone to be a part of the flagship Mi-series, but according to a report on MyDrivers (via GizmoChina), it would be a part of Redmi-series. The display will reportedly be supplied by Chinese supplier BOE, and due to in-screen punch hole camera, the smartphone is expected to feature an impressive screen-to-body ratio. Xiaomi smartphones haven t been known for their camera prowess, but with this smartphone, the company is attempting to break that image. It is expected to come with a triple-camera setup at the rear, with the primary sensor having 48-megapixel resolution. The second sensor will help in capturing wide-angle shots, but the resolution of the same is unknown.
There is no word on the resolution of the third sensor, or the type of lens. It could either feature a depth sensor or come with a telephoto lens for 2X lossless zoom. Reports also indicate that the smartphone will be priced higher than other Redmi smartphones, and may cost over Rs 21,000.
Talking about hardware, the smartphone could be powered by the 11nm Snapdragon 675 SoC that was announced earlier this year in October. No other details of the smartphone are available at the moment, but as the launch draws closer, we expect more information to pour in.
