November 2 is probably an auspicious day it seems, as there were a number of smartphone launches globally. In India, Xiaomi launched its best selfie smartphone the Redmi Y1, and the Redmi Y1 Lite as well. Xiaomi also rolled out its custom ROM MIUI 9 in India. Another smartphone that launched in India was another selfie smartphone, the Oppo F5. A global launch was witnessed with the HTC U11 Plus and U11 Life. Xiaomi Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite launch
Xiaomi launched two smartphones in India today Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite. The Redmi Y1 starts at Rs 8,999 for the base variant, while the Redmi Y1 Lite will retail at Rs 6,999. Both the smartphones will be available for purchase starting November 8 via Amazon India, Mi.com and Xiaomi s offline retailers. The Redmi Y1 s highlight is the 16-megapixel front camera which is accompanied with soft lamp flash.
Xiaomi MIUI 9 rollout in India
Along with the smartphone launch, Xiaomi also announced the rollout of MIUI 9 in India. On November 3, the Redmi Note 4 and Mi Max 2 will first receive the stable MIUI 9. By mid-November, the stable MIUI 9 will arrive on Mi MIX 2, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Redmi 4X, Mi 5, and the Mi Max. Rest of the devices will be updated by to MIUI 9 by early December. MIUI 9 also has a new Gallery app with editing tools and filters to choose from.
Oppo F5 launch
After having launched in the Philippines, the Oppo F5 made its way to India with a price tag of Rs 19,990 for the 4GB RAM variant, and Rs 24,990 for the 6GB RAM variant. The smartphone s highlight is its 20-megapixel front camera which is powered by Artificial Intelligence. The Oppo F5 is also the company s first smartphone offering 18:9 aspect ratio on its 6-inch full HD display. It will be available for purchase starting November 9.
HTC U11 Plus, U11 Life launched
As expected, the HTC U11+ and U11 Life were launched today. The HTC U11+ features a 6-inch Quad HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Edge Sense technology on the HTC U11+ is also upgraded with a new Edge launcher which has app shortcuts and settings. The HTC U11 Life, on the other hand is an Android One smartphone. It has a 5.2-inch Super LCD Gorilla Glass 3 display, Snapdragon 630 SoC, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Both the HTC U11+ and U11 Life run the latest Android 8.0 Oreo.
OnePlus 5T headphone jack
OnePlus today announced that it will retain the headphone jack on its upcoming OnePlus 5T. After a survey conducted among its users, OnePlus discovered that 90 percent users still use in-jack headphone. Although it did think of removing the headphone jack, keeping the user experience in mind, it decided not to. OnePlus 5T is also expected to come with a major upgrade over the OnePlus 5, which is an edge-to-edge display. The smartphone s launch is expected anytime soon.
