We re currently testing Mi Band and plan to sell it in India as soon as we complete the update to MIUI 6 for our devices. Mi Band requires Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) which is supported by Android versions 4.3+. The MIUI 5 build on the Note 3G and Redmi 1S is on Android 4.2.2, so we want to get those devices updated to MIUI 6 before we launch the Mi Band.
MIUI 6 is in the process of rolling out for Note 4G and Mi 3 right now and we plan to update the Note 3G and Redmi 1S by late March/April. That means that you should see Mi Band launch in March/April.
Xiaomi recently revealed a timeline for MIUI 6 roll out for other smartphones in India. The Mi 3 and Redmi Note 4G will be getting the UI update sometime this month, followed by Redmi 1S and the Redmi Note 3G sometime next month.
As mentioned above, the Mi Band was unveiled in China back in July last year. Within three months, Xiaomi had shipped more than a million bands. The demand for the company s wearable is not that surprising considering it only costs RMB 79 or Rs 760 approximately.
The Mi Band is a fitness tracker with IP67 certification and a battery life of up to 30 days. Additionally, it is also a proximity unlocker for your Xiaomi smartphone. So if you are holding your Xiaomi smartphone in the same hand as you re wearing the band, the smartphone will unlock without a password.
