It looks like Xiaomi has started rolling out the Android 8.1 Oreo update with the July 2018 Android security patch and the fix for the SMS bug. The company had previously paused the update because of reports that the update was removing SMS messages for some users. It seems that the company has fixed the issue and updated the security patch to that of July and the update is ready to roll again. The rollout was confirmed by a number of Mi A1 users who posted the screenshots of the update prompt screen on the MIUI forum. The update brings the Build number to OPM1.171019.026.V188.8.131.52.ODHMIFE.
This is not the first time that the company has resumed the rollout as the company unwittingly rolled out problematic updates while upgrading the device to the Android 8.0 Oreo. in the past. The update differs in size from 467.3MB to 1152.0MB depending on either the existing version of the operating system, if the device is rooted, or may even depend on the carrier. This comes just a day after Xiaomi teased the second generation of the Xiaomi Mi A series hinting at the fact that it may be planning to launch two devices instead of the one variant that the company launched last year.

According to the teaser that Xiaomi posted on its social media channels, it is confirmed that Xiaomi Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite will both come with the Android One branding. This means that both of the devices will be among the first lot of devices apart from the Google Pixel and Nexus lineup to get the monthly Android security patch updates.
To recap, the company launched the Xiaomi Mi A1 last year in September 2017 and the device comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It features a 5.5-inch full-HD screen along with a dual-camera setup at the rear with two 12-megapixel camera sensors. One of the two lenses in the dual-camera setup allows users to zoom up to 2X without losing out much detail while assisting in portrait effects. It runs on 3,080mAh battery and comes with a USB Type-C port.
