Xiaomi Mi A1, the first Android One smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker, is now getting stable build of Android 8.0 Oreo. The smartphone got the Android Oreo beta update early this month and now the stable version has been rolled out for all users. Xiaomi launched the Mi A1 based on Android One in India in partnership with Google in September. The smartphone was launched with Android 7.1 Nougat, but the company promised to release Android Oreo update by the end of this year. The update is being rolled out in the form of an over-the-air (OTA) update and will be available in to all users in a phased manner. The update should pop up in notification as soon as it becomes available and Mi A1 users can also manually check for update by heading to Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Check for update. Before updating to Android 8.0 Oreo, the Mi A1 users must ensure that their device is running the December update with version number 7.12.19. Apart from upgrading to Android 8.0 Oreo as base version, the update also brings latest December security update. The Oreo update brings new features PIP mode where users can continue watching their favorite shows on Netflix while continuing to use another application.
The Oreo update also brings enhanced battery life with improved Doze on Go mode that offers better background app limitation. The update brings adaptive icons, redesigned settings app and autofill API. Xiaomi had previously confirmed that Android Oreo update will enable fast charging on Mi A1.
Other key improvements include Rescue Party feature that helps the device recover from constant bootloops. It also brings security enhancement in the form of Google Play Protect that checks for malicious apps in the background.
The Android 8.0 Oreo update for Mi A1 weighs in at 1107.4MB and the smartphone is now one of the most affordable Android smartphone to get the latest update. Xiaomi has also confirmed that Mi A1 will be updated to Android P next year. The Mi A1 recently received a permanent price cut of Rs 2,000 and is now available for Rs 12,999.
