Xiaomi has taken to social media to tease the launch of a new product. A teaser on Weibo (spotted by Gizmochina) features a large ‘S’, and the Mi logo at the top-right corner. While the teaser is short on details, reports claim that Xiaomi could be teasing the imminent launch of the Redmi S2.
The Xiaomi Redmi S2 has been teased multiple times in the past few weeks. If they are to be believed, this upcoming device will be a budget offering with premium features like face unlock and dual cameras. While Xiaomi has yet to announce an official launch date, this teaser poster means a launch is close. Interestingly, the smartphone was recently leaked in all its glory on a Czech website. In fact, the report claimed that the yet-to-be announced smartphone is already being displayed on the Mi Store in the Czech Republic.
From what we have come across so far, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 will feature a 5.99-inch HD+ display, and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC paired with 3GB of RAM. There will also be 32GB of storage on offer.
The smartphone is also expected to feature a dual-camera setup (12-megapixel+5-megapixel) at the back, a 16-megapixel snapper for selfies, a fingerprint sensor, and a 4,205mAh battery. On the software front, it is expected to run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.

A separate leak also hinted at a price tag. As per the leak, the Redmi S2 could come with a price tag of VND 3,999,000, which roughly translates to Rs 11,700. The smartphone is expected to soon launch in India, and could very well be priced lower than what the leak suggests.
While most reports are siding with the teaser being about the Xiaomi Redmi S2, some suggest otherwise. Some claim that this teaser could instead be teasing the unveiling of the rumored Surge S2 SoC. The company is said to have been working on the new chipset for quite sometime now, and it is expected to be built on TSMC’s 16nm manufacturing process.
