Xiaomi has added one more feather to its cap as the company has sold over 25 million smartphones in India. The Indian smartphone market, guided by the affordable factor, has helped the China-based company rise and achieve tremendous success.
The company announced that on an average, it sold 22,000 phones per day over the last three years. Now, that is some achievement for a brand that has largely restricted itself to flash sales model. At this rate, Xiaomi claims itself as the fastest brand to cross the mark.

Xiaomi, founded in 2010, did not enter the Indian smartphone market before 2014 with its Mi 3 – its first smartphone to be launched outside home country China. Since then, the brand has evolved as the hot favorite among the price-conscious Indian consumers, and today boasts a number of smartphones from the Redmi and Note series. It was earlier this month when the company announced that 5 million units of the Redmi Note 4 were sold in six months of its launch. Priced at Rs 9,999, it was one of the highest selling smartphones in Q1 2017, according to IDC. The record-breaking numbers do not stop at one model or one quarter. The company has a record of selling 250,000 Xiaomi Redmi 4A units in four minutes on the first day of its flash sale. Part of this success can also be attributed to the company’s strong fan base in the country.
For the longest time, the company achieved its success through its online-only, flash sales model. But now, the company wants to expand its offline presence to better compete against homegrown manufacturers such as Micromax, which has an edge in the traditional retail sector. To fill in the gap, Xiaomi opened two ‘Mi Homes’ in Bengaluru this year and now plans to open more offline stores in Delhi-NCR.
