This piece of news will no doubt make Xiaomi smartphones users happy. Smartphones from the Chinese company that are running Android Oreo are getting a boost as far as their audio capabilities are concerned.

Xiaomi smartphones running Android 8.0 or 8.1 Oreo are now getting LDAC support, MyDrivers reports. The codec support was spotted on the latest public beta, and it shouldn’t be long before it is rolled out on the stable version.

LDAC is an audio codec developed by Sony. It was unveiled back at CES 2015, and is up to 3X more efficient than standard Bluetooth codec. LDAC allows for transmission of Hi-Res audio even when using Bluetooth connection. This essentially means that audio quality is not at all affected when listening to music over connected Bluetooth headsets.

LDAC will need to be turned on from the Settings menu. On successfully connecting to a compatible device, the LDAC icon will show up. A popup window will also notify that LDAC is currently supported, and enabled by default.

The recently launched Xiaomi smartphones all run Android Oreo out-of-the-box. The company has also steadily been rolling out Android Oreo updates to its smartphones. Most recently, the likes of Mi A1 and Redmi Note 5 Pro have received the update. The roll out for the Mi A1 though had to be paused because of issues. Incidentally, this is not the first time Oreo update for the Mi A1 has been rolled out, and then put on hold due to issues.
