The Redmi 1S was a definite value for money with its 4.7-inch HD 720p display, Dragontrail glass protection, 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM. It also featured an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera, 8GB internal storage that can be further expanded using the microSD card slot, and a 2,000mAh battery. Huawei Honor Holly, since its launch in October, has seen stocks sell out in hours on Flipkart. The device is priced at Rs 6,999 and features a 5-inch HD (1280 720 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. Also included are 16GB internal storage, microSD card support, 2,000mAh battery, 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
Motorola Moto E
The Moto E was launched in May and saw huge sales in India. Priced at Rs 6,999, the Moto E features a 4.3-inch qHD display, 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 dual-core SoC, 1GB of RAM and 4GB internal storage that is expandable via a microSD card. The device also features a 5-megapixel rear camera, 1,980mAh battery and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the software front, it runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Additionally, the Moto E also provides Gorilla Glass 3 protection for the display as well as water and dust resistance.
Asus Zenfone 4
The Asus Zenfone 4 was also launched on Flipkart in August, and is a good alternative to the Redmi 1S. The device is priced at Rs 6,999 and features a 4.5-inch FWVGA (854 480 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla 3 protection, 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2520 dual-core processor, PowerVR SGX544 GPU, 1GB of RAM. Also included is 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, VGA front-facing camera, 8GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card, and a 1,750mAh battery. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slot, 3G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and on the software front, it runs on Android 4.4 KitKat wrapped under the company s Zen UI.
Micromax Unite 2
You could also consider Micromax Unite 2. The device was launched in May for the price of Rs 6,999. It comes with a 4.7-inch display WVGA display, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. On the connectivity front, it comes with dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
Google partnered with Micromax, Karbonn and Spice to launch the Android One initiative, enabling affordable smartphones to house the latest version of stock Android. For this purpose, Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V and Spice Dream Uno were launched between the price range of Rs 6,000 to Rs 6,500.
They all have similar hardware, a 4.5-inch FWVGA (854 480 pixels) display, 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM, 5-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 4GB internal storage, microSD card slot, and a 1,700mAh battery. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and on the software front, it runs on the latest Android 4.4 KitKat. These phones are reported to get Lollipop updates this month.
