Chinese smartphone vendor, Xiaomi, is preparing to launch its first smartphone in India next week. The company has put up a teaser on its India website saying it will reveal its first smartphone for India on July 8. BGR India had exclusively reported last month that Xiaomi will launch its smartphones in India this month and had tied up with Flipkart to be its exclusive distribution partner. According to our sources, Xiaomi is planning to launch the Mi 3 and Redmi smartphones in India first. It will also launch a few accessories with it, including a 10,400mAh power bank. There is no word yet whether Xiaomi will also launch its Mi Pad in India though we are made to believe that is not happening initially. BGR India had earlier exclusively reported that Xiaomi had hired Jabong co-founder Manu Kumar Jain to head its India operations. Earlier this week Xiaomi announced it had sold 26.1 million smartphones in the first half of 2014 alone, which is more than what it sold in the entire last year (18.7 million). Xiaomi’s smartphone sales have quadrupled from those in the first half of 2013 and it will only grow faster as the company plans to expand outside China, including India and Brazil among eight other markets this year. The question is whether it can produce enough smartphones to satiate demand?
