The third largest smartphone vendor in China, Xiaomi, will make its India debut today in less than a couple of hours. The launch has already created a lot of buzz mostly because of its “high quality hardware at low price points” model. The Xiaomi Mi 3, which has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, a 5-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM among other specs will be launched in India for Rs 14,999, while competing smartphones at that price point offer a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset at best with 720p displays. Xiaomi is also teasing it will announce more products today, which could include its Redmi 1S and Redmi Note smartphones, which could be priced below Rs 10,000. Though highly unlikely, Xiaomi might also announce its Mi TV, which is a 47-inch 3D Smart TV that could retail for under Rs 40,000.
The highlight of today’s event, however, would be Xiaomi’s VP for international operations and former Googler, Hugo Barra, who already seems to be brushing up his Hindi and can be quite an entertainer if this video is to be believed.
